A **Capacity Building Program on Stress Management** was organized at Mount Tabor Training College as a collaborative initiative by all optional departments. The primary aim of the program was to introduce student-teachers to a variety of practical strategies and techniques to manage stress, enhance mental well-being, and promote a healthy lifestyle.
The event featured a series of sessions conducted by different optional departments, each presenting a unique approach to stress management:
- **Mathematics Optional** led the session with an **Introduction to Stress Management**, where participants were guided through the causes, symptoms, and impact of stress, especially in academic and teaching professions. The session provided a solid foundation for understanding stress and the importance of coping mechanisms.
- **Natural Science Optional** introduced the participants to the **Raisin Experiment**, a popular mindfulness exercise. Through sensory observation of a single raisin, students practiced slowing down and being fully present in the moment—enhancing awareness and promoting emotional calm.
- **English Optional** facilitated a creative and joyful session on **ART and Laughter Therapy**. Participants engaged in expressive drawing and group laughter exercises, which helped release tension, stimulate positive emotions, and build a sense of community and joy.
- **Social Science Optional** presented the **JPMR (Jacobson's Progressive Muscle Relaxation) Technique**, a scientifically proven method that involves tensing and relaxing different muscle groups. This technique helped participants experience physical relaxation and mental clarity.
- **Commerce Optional** energized the participants through a fun-filled **Zumba session**. The rhythmic movements and dance exercises offered an excellent outlet for physical activity, releasing endorphins and reducing stress.
- **Physical Science Optional** concluded the program with a calming session on **Yoga**, focusing on simple asanas, breathing techniques, and guided meditation. This session helped restore inner balance and emphasized the long-term benefits of incorporating yoga into daily routines.
The diverse range of sessions provided a holistic experience, combining physical, emotional, and psychological strategies to manage stress. Participants responded enthusiastically, appreciating the opportunity to learn and practice multiple stress-relief techniques in an engaging and supportive environment.
The program ended with a group reflection, where students shared their personal takeaways and committed to practicing at least one technique regularly for their well-being. The initiative successfully highlighted the importance of self-care and mental health in the lives of future educators.
